According to the Evening Standard, Liverpool and Manchester City are eyeing up a summer raid for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill in the coming summer window.

Clubs are looking to take advantage of the financial situation of Chelsea by signing homegrown players of that club. The Blues could be forced to sell a good chunk of the players after signing 15 in the last two transfer windows.

A few weeks ago, Daily Mail reported that Chelsea could offload up to eleven players in the summer. Such is the task that beckons for the upcoming manager.

Colwill, who is currently on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion, is viewed as a future England star. Gareth Southgate was contemplating calling him to the senior squad for the March international games, but the injury he picked up in January set that plan back.

Both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are looking to add new pieces to their defensive setup. The 20-year-old has shown quality and consistency in a Brighton shirt this season.

If we talk about Liverpool, they could do with a young centre-back in the squad for next season. Joel Matip is ageing and not getting better, while Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate are not dependable in terms of availability.

Colwill is adept at passing out from the back, possesses a great recovery pace, doesn’t get fussed by physical and aerial duels and is a good ball progression player from the back.
