Former Liverpool star Sadio Mane and his future see itself thrown into uncertainty following reports that he misses the Reds and stands keen to return to the Premier League this summer. The Senegalese winger transferred to Bayern Munich for a £35m fee in the 2022 transfer window, but it appears that he may be on his way back to Anfield.
According to Football Insider via ECHO, Mane remains suspended by Bayern Munich after an alleged dressing room altercation with Leroy Sane. Bayern are now willing to sell Mane as per the same reports, with the hope to recover most of the transfer fees.
If Mane does become available, Liverpool could show interest in re-signing their former star. Mane was a key player in Liverpool’s recent success. However, speaking of the practicality of the matter, it is very tough to accommodate Mane in the current squad.
Liverpool already have a wealth of left-sided forwards and wingers, including the likes of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo. Mane’s return would only add to an already crowded position, and Jurgen Klopp would have to manage the squad very carefully.
However, Mane’s availability could be an attractive proposition for Liverpool, and given the right circumstances, the move could be possible. The question is, would Liverpool be willing to make a move for the Senegalese forward?
With Mane available for transfer, Liverpool would undoubtedly face competition from other Premier League clubs. Mane’s form over the past few seasons has been nothing short of excellent but is finding it difficult to adjust to life at Bayern, as he has only 11 goals and five assists in 32
appearances across competitions. As mentioned earlier, despite Mane’s undeniable quality and his previous success at Liverpool, his potential return could also raise concerns about his age and recent form. Moreover, Mane’s age means that he may not have a long-term future at the club, which could make the potential financial cost of his return difficult to justify.
When there were rumours about him leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich, his age was one of the things fans were considering when trying to make peace with his potential departure. He is now a year older than that.
Overall, while Mane’s desire to return to Liverpool may be tempting for fans, it is important to consider the practical and financial implications of such a move. The Reds need to invest their resources wisely, and the need of the hour is a midfielder, not a forward.
