Liverpool could land Mason Mount for less than £70m in the summer window

As per his latest column on CaughtOffside (h/t Liverpool Echo), journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool could sign Mason Mount for less than £70m during the summer transfer window.

Jacobs also revealed that Mount is no closer to signing a new deal with Chelsea. Although the Blues may hope that appointing a new manager might convince him to stay, Liverpool could pitch in an integral role for him.

The Blues may want to recoup somewhere around £70m if they have to sell the 24-year-old. But, the Reds believe they can get him for less than that. His contract expiring in a year’s time may be a hindrance in what the London club wants for his sale.

After pulling out from the Jude Bellingham transfer due to the cost involved, it has been reported that Liverpool could sign more than two midfielders in the summer. Mount is one of their top targets.

Despite not playing much and struggling for form this season, the England international is a quality player who can offer a lot to the Reds midfield.

He is a versatile player who can play as an attacking number eight, as a number 10 or as a floating forward, preferably on the left-hand side.

The best thing about Mount is that he is a willing worker off the ball. It is a quality Jurgen Klopp likes in all of his players.

We hope to get this deal done as soon as this season is over. Getting the new signings to join the pre-season camp from the very first day would help in acclimatising to new surroundings and understanding the new playing systems.

It feels like the 24-year-old is bound to come to Anfield unless something drastically changes. But in football, we never say never. So, counting the chickens now would be a mistake.
