Liverpool approve contract for Chelsea’s Mason Mount

Liverpool are said to have prepared and approved a contract offer for Chelsea star Mason Mount, as per Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The English playmaker is not getting anywhere near extending his contract at Stamford Bridge, which expires at the end of next season. The Reds are said to be in pole position to sign him.

There is a midfield overhaul needed at Liverpool this summer and teams around the globe would be aware of that. Hence, the Reds would be wise to target players that are very near to running down their contracts.

Otherwise, clubs can sense this desperation and quote us big numbers. Jude Bellingham, of course, is the big dream but realistically, it seems hard for Liverpool to spend that much cash to sign the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund star.

Mount to LFC?

It’s revolting because we have put off signing a midfielder for so long that you would think we will be going for our first-pick targets when we actually did enter the market to sign a player in that position.

As it turns out, and as many fans saw it from miles away, the Reds have just left it too late. A number of players are experiencing injury issues at the same time while Jordan Henderson and Fabinho just don’t seem quite there for a ‘big six’ club.

Mount, in that regard, can offer something going forward with the ball. He is a profile we currently lack. Actually, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho share quite a similar playing style to him.

But they are either too fragile for English football right now or too inexperienced. Mount, 24, has the right amount of everything – experience, youth, attacking vigour, and desire to prove himself at a top club.

This should be a no-brainer but it should, by no means, be our only midfield signing.
