Fabio Carvalho could depart from Liverpool next summer

In a shocking development of events, Fabrizio Romano spoke on his Here We Go podcast and talked about the possibility of Liverpool losing out on Fabio Carvalho in the summer. The 20-year-old only joined the Reds in the summer of 2022 and has shown promise in the few opportunities that have come by him.

He said:

“Fabio Carvalho I am told is also leaving. We have to see what solution they will find but he is young and he is never playing, so it is important to clarify these things.”

In 20 appearances across all competitions this season, Carvalho has three goals for the Reds and all three big goals. His debut goal came in the 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth at home followed by the late, late match-winner against Newcastle United at home.

In the EFL Cup, Carvalho put one past Stefan Ortega in the Reds’ 3-2 loss to Manchester City. The former Fulham man has mostly played out of his natural position in the majority of these 20 appearances for Liverpool. It is certainly sad that the player’s potential sees itself wasted on the bench in his formative years in this fashion.

Carvalho is a creative player, who has excellent on-the-ball skills and is at his best in the number 10 role-playing just behind the striker. Moreover, Liverpool’s formation does not cater for a player of his profile. Hence, Klopp would have to tweak his formation to get Carvalho in.

Fabio to go out on loan?

However, with the resurgence of Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield and the possibility of playing a 3-4-3 formation when in possession, Carvalho could emerge as the most advanced of the midfielders and exploit spaces in between the lines.

But of course, that certainly needs a lot of thought as in theory, everything sounds easy and it is not certain that this would yield results in practice as well.

Maybe Liverpool should look to send him on loan to a team where he can understand what the Reds expect of him, and play this role in the other team so that he gets game-time and his development doesn’t see a stall too.

However, the idea of selling him doesn’t sound one bit good as we have seen what the player can do. He can obviously THRIVE in the right team, with the right players and the right role and it is in Liverpool’s hands how to utilise the player’s talents.

It is uncertain what the next move for this young man will be, but his move to Anfield has not gone according to plan so far. Hopefully, Klopp understands the player’s situation and knowing his talent adjusts or tweaks his formation to get the player into the Playing XI.
