Liverpool sent scouts to watch Benfica defender Antonio Silva

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have sent scouts to keep an eye on Benfica defender Antonio Silva ahead of a potential move in the summer.

The report reveals that Manchester United and Manchester City are also interested in the young Portugal international.

Silva’s contract at Benfica runs until the summer of 2027 having made his senior debut this season. The release clause in his contract is believed to be around £77m.

A few days ago, Melissa Reddy of Sky Sports reported that Liverpool would be looking to make a defensive signing this summer, along with the much-anticipated midfield reshuffle.

The Reds were linked with RB Leipzig and Croatia centre-back Josko Gvardiol, but have dropped off their interest in him.

Jurgen Klopp could do with a right-sided centre-back addition this summer. Having seen him change the role of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold into more of a hybrid midfield position, having a mobile defender on the right-hand side makes sense.

Ibrahima Konate is there, but the Frenchman’s availability has been an issue due to various injury problems. If we look at the numbers, the former Leipzig defender has missed 13 games due to injuries this season. He had to be rested against West Ham United because Klopp thought he was close to getting an injury.

Things are starting to look a bit more positive in the past few weeks after the boss made tweaks to the system.

Although both things are not correlated, having a positive end to this underwhelming season could lead to better decision-making in the transfer market.
