Manchester City and Newcastle United pull out of race for Liverpool target Mason Mount
Liverpool target Mason Mount has been linked with a move to Manchester City, Newcastle United and Arsenal recently as his Chelsea contract comes to a halt next year.
However, according to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Man City and Newcastle are no longer after the 24-year-old. The Blues star is expected to leave this summer as his deal expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt).
He has supposedly rejected offers to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge. The race to sign Mount from Chelsea could now boil down to Liverpool and Arsenal.
And in that case, the Reds would hope that the Blues prefer to sell the England international to us rather than seeing him join one of their biggest rivals.
Mount and LFC a good match
Mount joining Liverpool would mean he can stay in England and the Premier League. It would also virtually guarantee him playing time given the state of our injury-infested, ageing and bland midfield.
Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner’s race at Anfield seems to be run. Jordan Henderson has been subpar for a while now while Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are still amassing experience in central midfield.
Midfield is a fairly new position for the trio considering they started their respective careers as wingers. Manchester City and Newcastle supposedly exiting the race for Mount can only be good news for Liverpool.

- Chelsea are planning a shock move for former Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane
- Liverpool could sign up to five players in the summer including a new defender
These are two rich teams that have equally big ambitions as Liverpool now. Hopefully, Mount is open to leaving London for Merseyside and can wear Liverpool red from next season. He is currently injured and it could mean that he has already played his last game for the Blues.
