Chelsea eye a move for Liverpool target and Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea are eyeing up a move for Liverpool target and AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana this summer.

Chelsea know Fofana because their co-sporting director Laurence Stewart used to work for Monaco before arriving at Stamford Bridge.

The report also reveals that the Blues will want to clear the squad first before Mauricio Pochettino takes over the reins. One of the players touted to leave the London club is Mason Mount, who remains a primary target for Liverpool.

The Reds are tracking Fofana as well because we all know they are in the market to sign more than one midfielder in the coming summer.

The French international is a central midfielder who can operate as a defensive midfielder too. He has been at Monaco since January 2020, having previously developed and played for Strasbourg.

After pulling out of the Jude Bellingham deal due to the cost involved, Liverpool have been linked with a lot of midfielders. The latest is Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte, who is positionally similar to Fofana.

It remains to be seen what direction will Jurgen Klopp and his staff take when it comes to signing midfielders this summer. Getting a defensive midfielder would be a necessity with Fabinho struggling for form and overall physical capability.

If Fofana is a genuine target, the Reds should go after signing him as soon as the summer window starts. Chelsea might take time before diving into getting players because they have to sell or release some of them first.
