Diogo Jota a doubt for the Fulham game as Jurgen Klopp provides injury update
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reveals that Diogo Jota would be a doubt for the Fulham game due to an issue in his back.
The German also updated us about Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita, both of whom are back in training but won’t be part of the game on Wednesday.
Talking about Jota, Klopp said that the knock he received a knock in the rib during the West Ham United game last week and could not train before the Tottenham encounter. Although he came on and scored the last-minute winner, he wasn’t 100%.
Here’s what the boss said about the overall team news (h/t Liverpool website):
“In our situation Bobby is out and Diogo struggles.
“He got, in the West Ham game, a knock in the back, a bruised rib, could not train before the [Tottenham] game but could play without an injection or whatever, but got another knock immediately when he came on.
“You might have seen the celebrations of Diogo, he was sitting down pretty slowly. He didn’t train since then so that is one that is a doubt… he is a doubt at least but I hope he can recover until tomorrow night.
“Bobby [is] training, he looks good, not ready for the game, but is doing more and more so [we are] waiting for him in team training again. Pretty much the same for Naby. “
With Keita’s contract expiring this summer, it increasingly feels like he has already played his last game for Liverpool. We do not see him making a comeback into the team for any of the remaining five games.
Firmino is in a similar situation, but Klopp may give him some game time before he departs from the club. We expect a proper send-off for the Brazilian given what he has done for the Reds in the last eight years.
Jota would be a big miss for the Fulham game if indeed that is the case. The Portugal international has been in sensational form, scoring five goals in the last four league games.
But, with Luis Diaz back in the fold, Klopp can rotate the former Wolves man out and give the Colombian another start to continue his comeback from the dreaded knee injury.

Although Liverpool have managed to win their last four games, it might not be enough to challenge the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United for a place in the top four. It is simply because the latter two are winning their games and showing no signs of slowing down. What the Reds can do is win their games and target the fifth spot as the finishing line draws.
