“Smiles in my face”- Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reveals what Paul Tierney said to him

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reveals what Paul Tierney told him vs Tottenham

Speaking ahead of the Fulham game, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reveals the things referee Paul Tierney told that were not right according to him.

When Diogo Jota scored the 95th-minute winner against Tottenham Hotspur, Klopp went straight at the fourth official and shouted something at him before pulling his hamstring.

Following that incident, the German was shown a yellow card from the on-field referee Tierney and had a conversation with the Liverpool boss. In the post-match interview, Klopp said that he did not like what the referee said to him while brandishing him that yellow card.

With the dust now slowly settling, he was asked about that incident and what was said that he did not like (h/t Sky Sports

):

“That is why I celebrated like I celebrated, there was the situation with the foul on Mo (Salah]) no foul, but in my view a foul, free-kick, then another free-kick, then the goal.

“And then a minute later we scored and then you should just be happy that you scored a goal, but I was just angry.

“I did not say anything wrong, I was shouting: ‘Without you, without you’, which does not even make any sense.

“I did not want to get close to the fourth official, then Paul Tierney came over to me and I did not expect at all a red card to be honest, I did not feel that was right, I expected the yellow card and he said to me, ‘For me it is a red card, but because of him, it is yellow’, and he shows me a yellow and smiles in my face, that is it.

“Red card for what? So I just stood there and then left. I opened the box, not intentionally, and then I stopped talking.”

If Klopp is deeming this conversation as something he did not like, he might want to look at himself rather than blame others.

Granted that the refereeing in the Premier League has been shambolic, it does not warrant him acting the way he did during and after the Spurs game.

Glad to know that he regrets opening this box, which would potentially lead him to get a harsh punishment, which may include a touchline ban as well.

While we, as Liverpool fans, support what Klopp will do for this club and beyond, this is something we hope he keeps a lid on going forward. The worst thing would be not having the German in the dugout for the games due to his unnecessary actions.

More Liverpool News:

Having said all of that, let’s not forget some of the shambolic refereeing we regularly see in the Premier League. We need to make sure that if the managers are getting punished for their actions, the referees are not let off the hook if a horror mistake is made.
