Liverpool have kept Alexis Mac Allister high on the list of midfield targets this summer

According to Paul Joyce of the Times (Subscription Required), Liverpool have kept Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister high on the list of their midfield targets for this summer.

A few days ago, Guardian reported that the World Cup winner is attracting interest not just from Liverpool, but also from Chelsea and Manchester United.

In that report, Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, revealed that the player will leave the Seagulls for another club this summer and the general talks have begun.

The 24-year-old signed a new contract with Brighton before the World Cup. His current deal at the Amex Stadium runs until the summer of 2025, with a club option of another year (Transfermarkt).

After having an excellent time in Qatar with Argentina, Mac Allister continues to have an exceptional season with Brighton. His versatility and quality on or off the ball have been very good to watch.

The former Boca Juniors midfielder has got 10 goals and two assists in 33 appearances in all competitions for the Seagulls. He is comfortable operating either as a number 10, in a midfield pivot or as a wide midfielder in a three-man setup.

Liverpool could do with the technical and flexible quality Mac Allister possesses. In Jurgen Klopp’s system, the Argentine can fit in as one of the number eights in a three-man midfield. His ability to push forward and score goals would be a good asset. His work rate off the ball is phenomenal too.
