Liverpool and Manchester United have held talks with young Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga

According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t Metro), Liverpool and Manchester United have held talks with the representatives of the young Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga.

The 20-year-old has been one of the best young midfielders in Europe this season. His contract with Celta lasts until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt), but there is a release clause of £40m that is attracting the interest of some of the elite clubs in Europe.

Along with Liverpool and United, Spanish and European giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are also positioning themselves to sign the young Spaniard.

We all know the Reds are desperately looking to strengthen their midfield department with key signings in the coming summer window. The report reveals that United boss Erik ten Hag is interested in a midfielder as Fred is expected to depart after the end of this season.

Veiga is a versatile midfielder who can operate as a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder. He has played a lot of games in a midfield pivot for Celta this season, with an eye for goal.

The Spain U21 international has got nine goals and four assists from 30 La Liga appearances, which is not a bad return for a central midfielder.

The 20-year-old is a technically strong player who can play the box-to-box role, reads the game well and is an asset going forward from midfield.

With the talent Veiga possesses and the release clause quoted, Liverpool should not have any issue in exercising that if Jurgen Klopp and his staff are fully convinced of the Spaniard doing well at Anfield.
