Liverpool star highlights “incredible” Mohamed Salah record that is “worthy of special acclaim”

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson heaps praise on Mohamed Salah

In the pre-match programme notes ahead of the clash against Fulham at Anfield, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson talked about how good Mohamed Salah has been for the club since he arrived from AS Roma.

The Egyptian King made his 300th appearance for the Reds in the thrilling 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The goal he scored in that game made him go above Robbie Fowler as the club’s outright sixth-highest goal scorer

.

We all know the 30-year-old broke Fowler’s club Premier League record of 128 goals during the 7-0 drubbing of Manchester United back on March 5. The numbers are just staggering from a player who doesn’t even play as a number nine most times.

Not just the goals or assists, Salah is one of the best players to ever grace the Liverpool shirt. Honouring his achievements and contributions to the team, here’s Henderson (h/t Liverpool FC website):

“When a player performs at an incredibly high level on a regular basis, the things that they do can sometimes be taken for granted as if they are somehow run-of-the-mill or nothing to get excited about.

“I say this because Mo Salah is closing in on recording 30 goals for the fourth season out of the six that he has been with Liverpool, an incredible record that is worthy of special acclaim.

“The goals Mo scores speak for themselves. They always have. Whatever measure you would like to use – variety, quality, value, type of opposition – he has an unbelievable knack of coming up with the goods for us and he has done from the moment he first arrived here.”

As the captain mentions, the former Roma man is closing in on 30 goals in all competitions for the fourth time in six seasons, which is incredible. In a so-called underwhelming season for him, the 30-year-old has got 28 goals and 11 assists from 46 appearances

in all competitions.

Those are decent numbers of a player who is labelled as just ‘a tap-in merchant who scores goals when the team is playing well and winning consistently’.

For context, Marcus Rashford has got 29 goals and 11 assists in 51 appearances. We all know how the media has run the stories around this being a season where the Manchester United man has done something so extraordinary as if there is a bias.

Not taking anything away from what Rashford has done, but Salah deserves credit instead of being pointed out towards the negative direction.

More Liverpool News:

As Henderson rightly mentions, we sometimes take things for granted – what Salah has done for Liverpool is immense and we have stop and recognise that every now and then. When the Premier League history is written in 10-20 years’ time, the Egyptian will be among the very best players to play in this league. Long may it continue!
