As per Football Insider (h/t Aberdeen Live), Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson, who is on loan at Aberdeen, is linked with Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers.

Clarkson has done well since moving to Pittodrie from Anfield on a season-long loan. His performances have attracted the attention of the perennial top-two clubs in Scottish football.

The 21-year-old has played 33 games in all competitions for Aberdeen this season so far, scoring five goals and assisting eight. He has been used in different positions across the midfield, be it as a number 10, as a central midfielder or sometimes as a defensive midfielder in a pivot.

Rangers boss Michael Beale, who used to work in the Liverpool Academy developing young players, has worked with Clarkson before and wants to bring him to Ibrox.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, on the other hand, wants to bolster his midfield department in the summer and is eager to get the former England U20 international.

Clarkson’s contract at Liverpool expires next summer. He has previously stated his desire to break into the senior team at Anfield. That has only happened three times so far.

Having seen how good and comfortable he looks in the Scottish league, it might not be a bad idea for the Reds to let him sign for one of the clubs there on a permanent deal.

Although not mentioned in the report, Aberdeen may want to keep him, won’t they? He has become one of their key players in a team that would play European football next season. Common sense says they will bid to sign the youngster too.

More Liverpool News:

The sale would bring the club some cash that can be used for the potential midfield reshuffle which is on the cards. For the player, a move to Rangers and Celtic – two of Scotland’s biggest clubs – would also be a kind of a step up.

That is because he won’t have the chance of playing regularly at Liverpool while Aberdeen aren’t really at the pinnacle of Scottish football. It can be the move the 21-year-old needs to kickstart his career properly.
