Liverpool target Goncalo Inacio prefers a move to Manchester United
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, via Express, Liverpool have found themselves on the wrong side of a transfer move with reported target Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio preferring a summer move to Manchester United.
Liverpool and United have been the fiercest of rivals for a very long time and even today find themselves in a tug-of-war for targets for the window.
Jurgen Klopp and staff have identified Inacio as one of the targets for the summer to add to the squad’s depth and eventually be a replacement for Virgil van Dijk. However, it seems like the player is keen on a move to Old Trafford who are set to upgrade on their centre-back depth with current captain Harry Maguire speculated to leave the club.
As mentioned above, Liverpool and United have been fighting for one thing or the other for the past years and now it comes down to who secures the UEFA Champions League qualification.
Blow for Liverpool
Whosoever is able to secure a seat for the top European football competition will certainly be a more attractive place for the target players.
Currently, with Liverpool’s win over Brentford and United’s loss to West Ham United over the weekend, there is only a gap of one point between the two clubs albeit United has played a game less.
Newcastle United’s loss to Arsenal adding to the United loss has really opened up the possibilities of Liverpool finishing the season in top four.
Hopefully, we are able to continue with the current form and secure a place in the Champions League. It would be a big factor in attracting players like Inacio to Anfield. The 21-year-old is at an age where he knows he will to choose an option that helps him play regularly and develop his skills.

We have Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez as our first-choice centre-backs right now. But while having four centre-backs seems good, we must recognise that Matip and Gomez’s injury issues and Van Dijk’s form this season should compel the team to sign a world-class, young centre-back as well alongside several new midfielders.
