Transfer News: Brentford eye Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher as Daivd Raya replacement
Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher could be handed a lifeline by Brentford, who seemed resigned to losing David Raya this summer.
According to the Irish Mirror, the Spanish goalkeeper looks set to leave the Gtech Community Stadium at the end of the season for £35million. They could turn to Liverpool’s Irish shot-stopper as a replacement.
Kelleher has shown his worth whenever Jurgen Klopp has given him his time out in the sun. He has been calm, composed and largely error-free between the sticks for us. Not to mention, he has swiftly replaced Adrian San Miguel as our No. 2 goalie.
He may not be elite at saving penalties but one will recall his heroic EFL Cup final performance against Chelsea last year when we won the trophy. He even has his face on the wall of goalkeepers in our training centre.
Liverpool will need a new backup goalie
Without doing a lot here, Kelleher has become a fan favourite who has always stayed out of the headlines for the wrong reason. He has barely ever expressed his frustration at being Alisson Becker’s No. 1
And because of these reasons, hardly any Liverpool fan would want to rob him of the chance to go elsewhere and become a first-team regular. It would be even better if it is in the Premier League because that is the level he deserves to be playing at.
David Raya is a very good goalkeeper but Brentford seem set to lose him this summer with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United listed as his potential suitors. Liverpool, meanwhile, are said to value Kelleher, 24, at £15million, which seems like a fair price.

If the Bees are open to meeting that, then Liverpool should oblige and let the Republic of Ireland unfurl his potential in west London. But then, the Reds must make sure they are ready with an able No. 2, because Kelleher’s presence has more or less relaxed Liverpool fans whenever Alisson has been unavailable.
