Liverpool would be willing to bid €100m for Newcastle United midfielder and Barcelona target Bruno Guimaraes
As per Spanish outlet AS (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool would be interested in bidding €100m for Newcastle United and Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
The former Lyon star has been one of the most influential players in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United in January 2022.
Echo has previously reported about Liverpool’s admiration for the player. Soon-to-be Spanish champions Barcelona are also interested in him. That is always a worry, given the clout Barca carry in the footballing streets of South America.
The 25-year-old is a combative midfield player who can either play as a box-to-box midfielder or a number 10. He is technically very good, has a good range in passing, works hard off the ball and has a good shot in him.
Eddie Howe has used him in deeper-lying midfield positions at Newcastle more often than not. The Brazilian has managed to impact the game largely due to his intensity on and off the ball.
While all that is good, it sounds a bit strange that Liverpool would want to spill €100m on Guimaraes. It was only a few weeks ago we pulled out of the race to sign long-term target Jude Bellingham because of the money involved.
The club must look to spread their transfer budget to sign many new players in the summer window. We have been lazy in the past transfer windows when it comes to addressing our midfield issues, renewing contracts of players who are past it or unwilling to move on players who make no impact here.
Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton and Hove Albion has been linked of late. Mason Mount is no nearer to signing a new contract at Chelsea, hence his departure this summer is on the cards. Liverpool have kept him as their primary target.

Coming back to Guimaraes, as good a player he is, one would not think the Reds forking out €100m for him. As a matter of fact, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the club won’t be held to ransom regarding player signings. Everything points towards this report is just a rumour and nothing else.
