Resurgent 24-year-old star wins Liverpool monthly gong for April

Trent Alexander-Arnold named Liverpool Player of the Month for April

Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named the Red’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for April, according to the club’s official website.

The Anfield side played seven games in the Premier League last month. Jurgen Klopp’s team fell short in the disappointing 4-1 loss to Manchester City in which the England international started.

Then against Chelsea, the 24-year-old was dropped to the bench as the game ended in a draw. Subsequently, the right-back was back in the starting lineup versus Arsenal. The Gunners took a two-goal lead, but the Reds showed great mettle to get a point from the game.

Trent has hit a brilliant patch of form. The full-back was back to his very best in the 6-1 win over Leeds United, providing two assists. Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by us as well, with the defender getting an assist in each of the fixtures.

The England international has not had the best of campaigns. Defensively, the 24-year-old has been found wanting on several occasions this season, with opposition teams targeting our right-hand side.

Trent has looked short of confidence. The full-back’s work rate has also left a lot to be desired. Going forward, while the defender has done well in recent weeks, the English national has looked like a shadow of his former self.

But Klopp has changed the 24-year-old’s role a bit. He now tucks into the middle of the park during the Anfield side’s build-up play. The change seems to have benefitted the academy graduate.

Liverpool’s best spell in the past few seasons has come when our full-backs have bombarded down the flanks. Unfortunately, we have not seen much of that from either Trent or Andrew Robertson in recent months.

Hopefully, the England international will regain his confidence after a stellar last month and continues to perform at a high level to help the Merseysiders get into the top four.
