“Things evolve”- Liverpool star backs new-look Reds frontline to score more goals next season

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson backs the new forward line to fire next season

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has backed the new forward line to fire them to challenge for major honours next season.

With Sadio Mane leaving last summer and Roberto Firmino set to go at the end of this season, the favoured front-three has been broken apart in the space of a year. Only Mohamed Salah stays to form new forward-line partnerships with the recent arrivals.

The club signed Luis Diaz in January 2022, but the Colombian missed six months of action this season due to a knee injury. So, we are yet to see a full season from him at Anfield thus far. Darwin Nunez was signed last summer and it seems like he is going to take some time to settle. Cody Gakpo

Then, there is Diogo Jota who arrived in the summer of 2020 but hasn’t been able to get a long run in the team due to injuries. Henderson feels the new forward line has it in them to help the team challenge for trophies next season. Here’s what the captain said (h/t Sky Sports, via Liverpool Echo):

“Things evolve all the time and we’ve had new players come into that forward line and they are very exciting players. And there are a lot of different things we can use and different personnel that can do different things really.

“So, yeah, it is really exciting and it’s just about putting that together to make it the best version of the team. We have a lot of quality players that can go up front and all of them can score goals, so we need to use that to our advantage next season.”

Nunez arrived last summer but the team had a shortened pre-season because of an early start to the season due to the Winter World Cup. Gakpo is yet to have a full pre-season having signed for the club in January.

There is hope that both of them will do well next season after an intensive pre-season with the squad. The latter has already shown signs of how good he can become.

After all of this, there is Salah – the King. He was apparently struggling this season, yet got 30 goals in all competitions. Be it the previous forward line or the new one, the Egyptian star remains a key player up front for Liverpool.

As long as he stays in goal-scoring form, the Reds won’t have many issues. The others just have to chip in and stay fit to get rotated around because the schedule is tough on everyone.
