Liverpool among the clubs hoping to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen
Surprisingly enough, even after the signings of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo over the summer and January transfer windows respectively, Liverpool still want to sign another striker, and this time it is, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (print edition, via Paisley Gates) [h/t liverpool.com], Liverpool are among many teams hoping to sign the 24-year-old Nigerian centre forward.
According to those reports, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Newcastle and Bayern Munich also show great interest in the player. He stands valued at a whopping £141m. Osimhen wants to continue playing Champions League football, even in case he departs from Naples.
Victor Osimhen has been in top form this season, scoring at an extremely high rate. In 35 appearances across all competitions, he has 28 goals and 5 assists. Going by his current form, there is hardly any striker in world football better than him.
Osimhen transfer extremely unlikely
However, it is extremely tough to see him in Liverpool colours next season. The likes of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo see themselves slowly integrating into the club’s style of play and adding to that, we have Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and of course, Mohamed Salah at the helm already.
There is hardly any space for another attacker who would want regular first-team football. The actual need at Liverpool in terms of the attack is a right-winger who could provide backup for Salah.
Leverkusen’s Amine Adli is a name who could fit in well at the Reds, but there are not a lot of links with the 23-year-old Frenchman. Keeping that story aside though, it seems extremely unlikely that the Reds add another player to their ranks, in terms of the attack.
The need of the hour is the midfield, and hopefully, we see a few top-class players join the club next summer and help us through the transition phase at the club.

We’re not sure if Liverpool will finish in the top four yet. Even if they do, getting a new forward is not very important. It’s better to use the money for two or three new midfielders, and that’s probably what they will do or rather, should do.
