“For sure we will lose some players”- PL manager admits 21-year-old Liverpool and Arsenal target could leave

Roberto De Zerbi admits Liverpool and Arsenal target Moises Caicedo could leave Brighton

Moises Caicedo could still join Arsenal after missing out on a move to the Emirates in January 2021, while Liverpool are expected to battle for his signature in the summer transfer window, as per the Telegraph (Subscription Required).

Now, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi has admitted that Caicedo, alongside another Liverpool target, Alexis Mac Allister, could leave this summer. The two midfielders were very impressive in the Seagulls’ 3-0 win against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.

Speaking after the game, the Italian tactician said, via Fabrizio Romano

on Twitter:

“For sure we will lose some players. Maybe Caicedo, maybe Mac Allister. We have to be ready to bring in more good players.”

It is not common for managers to publicly drop the names of the players that could be on their way out. If De Zerbi has named Mac Allister and Caicedo, then it is highly likely they leave, possibly for ‘bigger clubs’.

Smart move?

Chelsea and Manchester United are also expected to battle for the Ecuador international. But the 21-year-old, and his Argentinian teammate on the south coast, will know which out of the four teams is more in need of a midfield revamp.

Not only does that offer them a better chance at first-team playing time, but it also presents them with an opportunity to be the face of the club’s next generation, much like Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez have been for our attack.

Considering Brighton rejected a 70million Pound offer from Arsenal in January, one can expect they will want a handsome fee to finally let go of Caicedo. The same can be said for Mac Allister, 24, who is entering the prime of his career and whose stocks are at an all-time high after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

These are two signings we would be wise to make but if given a choice between the two, perhaps the club would be better off signing Caicedo, who is younger and is more oriented towards the defensive side of things – a feature of our midfield three under Jurgen Klopp.
