Jurgen Klopp hopeful of having Roberto Firmino back for Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Speaking after the win over Leicester City (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given renewed hope that Roberto Firmino will be fit to face Aston Villa this weekend.

The Brazilian star is among the most recognizable names among Klopp’s players and is a fan favourite at Anfield. Arguably a legend, he will be remembered fondly by fans for years to come.

With his set to leave Liverpool next summer, the upcoming game against Aston Villa present the Reds’ faithful with a final opportunity to give the Samba ace a worthy sending-off. One can argue that few eyes will be dry in the crowd that night.

Given that Firmino is out injured, there were concerns he might not regain his fitness in time. Klopp has now revealed that all hope might not be lost.

Klopp goes on to add that the striker is expected to return to team training on Wednesday. Hopefully he will build up enough practise to take to the field against Villa. Whether it be as a starter of a substitute, Liverpool fans will be hopeful of him gracing the field.

“I think he has a chance of playing (against Aston Villa). We drive home tomorrow and it will be a day off – not for him, but the others – and then Wednesday he will be in team training, that is my information.”

However, emotion alone cannot rule Klopp’s heart. He is well aware that Liverpool cannot afford to drop points against Villa. He will need to ensure that the team that is put out is capable of securing all three points.

“The Saturday game is a super difficult game for plenty of reasons. Probably farewell around the game for a few players.”

Firmino was privy to Liverpool fans making their feelings known towards him against Leicester City last night. The Reds’ fans are ready to savour every last minute they can call Firmino the club’s number nine.

Firmino is not the only player set to depart Liverpool next summer.  James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Adrian are all set to depart on a free.

The 31-year-old has made 360 games for the Reds, scoring 109 goals and assisting 79 more. Hopefully, he can sign off with another goal at Anfield. Either way, the crowd are likely to give the loudest rendition of ‘Si Senor’.
