Liverpool no longer prioritising a move for Matheus Nunes
According to insights from Ben Jacobs, it appears that Matheus Nunes is not currently a top priority for Liverpool after extensive links with the player over the previous two transfer windows.
Writing in his exclusive Caught Offside column, Ben Jacobs stated that Liverpool have pretty much moved on from Matheus Nunes and eye a move for other players that include the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount.
If not for the FIFA rules that disallow a player to sign for two or more clubs in a single season, the Reds would have left no stone unturned in their pursuit of the 24-year-old Portuguese international who has not had the best of times with the West Midlands outfit so far from a personal level.
Liverpool’s interest in players like Mac Allister and Mount certainly demonstrates their ongoing commitment to improving the team. These new targets could bring unique qualities and skills to the squad, complementing the existing talent and potentially addressing specific areas of concern in the new style of play Liverpool have adopted in recent weeks.
Liverpool move on from Nunes
Moreover, it’s clear that Liverpool’s decision-makers believe these alternatives could offer a better fit for the team’s current needs and objectives.
In 38 appearances for Wolves across all competitions this season, he has only a goal and one assist to his name. Maybe Liverpool and the scouts have seen something we haven’t and decided that Nunes could no longer fit our plans.
While Nunes may not be part of Liverpool’s immediate plans, the club’s pursuit of alternative midfield targets displays positive intent toward recruitment. Getting it right at this stage is key to offset the departures in midfield.
As the transfer window progresses, Liverpool will continue to assess their options and make strategic moves to reinforce their midfield which certainly needs some.
