Liverpool keen admirers of 19-year-old Belgian defensive midfielder

Southampton star Romeo Lavia is on the radar of Liverpool

Southampton’s defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia has caught the attention of the Liverpool scouts and as per Neil Jones of GOAL, the Reds ‘admire’ the 19-year-old Belgian international.

Romeo Lavia finds himself on the transfer radar of Chelsea and Liverpool according to GOAL’s Neil Jones via ECHO. Tough to see why Chelsea show interest in the midfielder given the plethora of options they have in the middle of the park, contrary to Liverpool.

Following the departure of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita, Liverpool need someone who could give Fabinho a run for his place in the starting XI, and Lavia could prove to be someone who could stand useful in that role, and in the cup games as well.

The Manchester City academy graduate moved to Southampton’s first team at the beginning of this season and has certainly been impressive for the Saints despite the club as a whole not enjoying the best of times in the league this season, all set to feature in the Championship next season.

Lavia to the Reds?

With Russell Martin to take over as manager of Southampton from next season onward, Lavia would not want to leave for the Championship, but instead still want to prove his worth at a Premier League club. Liverpool could prove to be just the place for him to grow as a professional and eventually become a regular.

Fabinho, this season, has not been his usual self and could do with some competition for a place in the XI.

Liverpool would have a glance at the player again this Sunday, in the final league fixture this season for either club, and hopefully, see something that could excite Jurgen Klopp. 34 appearances across all competitions at the age of 19 speaks levels of the confidence his club has shown in him.

While Liverpool’s interest in Lavia signals their intent to strengthen their midfield, the club will need to act swiftly and decisively to secure his services. Competition from Chelsea and the possibility of Manchester City’s involvement in the race with a buyback clause certainly add an additional layer of complexity to the situation.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool’s pursuit of Lavia will certainly be closely followed by fans and pundits alike. Whether he ends up at Anfield or elsewhere, Lavia’s talent and potential indicate that he is on the cusp of a bright future in the world of football.
