Liverpool target Khephren Thuram insists that he is happy at Nice

Nice and France midfielder Khephren Thuram insists that he is happy at the Ligue 1 club amidst concrete interest from Liverpool.

Daily Mail revealed that the Reds opened negotiations to sign the midfielder in the summer transfer window. He is valued at around £50m.

Thuram’s current deal at Nice runs until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). The 22-year-old, son of the French great Lillian Thuram, was a youth product at AS Monaco before joining Nice in 2019.

Here’s what the midfielder said when asked about the future amidst Liverpool’s interest (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“I want to progress, go on the field, have fun. For now, I’m in Nice. It’s going very well. I really like the club, so I still see myself in Nice. I am very well in Nice.

“There are noises, I hear, but I’m happy in Nice. I hope to grow with this club. I would like him (Didier Digard, manager) to stay because he brought a lot to this group when it was in a difficult period.”

This sounds like a definite statement from a player who wants to stay at his current club and continue his development there. But, a lot can still happen in the coming days and weeks.

Thuram is a beast of a central midfielder who is one of the best in Europe when it comes to ball progression and physical aggressiveness. His height allows him to be aerially strong as well.

In short, the 22-year-old has everything an elite central midfielder should have to succeed in the game at the current age.

Liverpool lack midfielders of this type and profile. Jurgen Klopp prefers his midfielders to be physically strong and run like machines all game long.

If the Reds manage to sign Thuram irrespective of the comment made, the Frenchman would add a lot of qualities that are liked by Klopp.
