Liverpool target and Real Madrid star Marco Asensio to join PSG as a free agent

In a surprising turn of events, Liverpool target Marco Asensio has made the decision to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer from Real Madrid.

The news comes as a blow to the Reds, who had been monitoring the talented Spanish winger as a potential addition to their squad.

The Athletic (Subscription Required) report Marco Asensio‘s decision to join the Ligue 1 leaders. His move to France means that Liverpool will now need to reassess their options and dive into the transfer market in search of a suitable right-winger to provide backup for Mohamed Salah.

While the Reds boast a strong attacking lineup, it is crucial to have adequate depth and competition in every position to maintain the high standards set by Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Asensio blow for the Reds

The Spanish international’s decision to join PSG on a free transfer provides the French club with a significant coup, securing the services of a player with immense talent and potential.

However, speaking of the Merseysiders, the club’s transfer team will now shift their focus and intensify their efforts to identify suitable alternatives to Asensio. They will be keen to find a player who can provide effective competition for Salah while possessing the necessary qualities to thrive in Klopp’s high-intensity style of play.

Securing the services of a talented right-winger will not only add depth to Liverpool’s attacking options but also inject healthy competition within the squad. Liverpool have Harvey Elliott, but the player is fitting in well in central midfield and on top of that, he doesn’t seem to have the express pace that a winger under Klopp usually does.

The Reds have built a reputation for their attacking prowess, and it is vital to maintain this level of excellence by having strong backup options in place.
