Liverpool open talks for Newcastle and Manchester United United target Manu Kone

Liverpool are believed to have opened talks to sign Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach, who has also drawn interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United.

This is according to Get French Football News, via Mirror, who state that the German club are more open to a sale this summer than they were last year. This would come as a boost for the Reds.

They are in urgent need of midfield reinforcements. Newcastle United and Manchester United are two strong teams that will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

But Kone, like any other football spectator, will know that Liverpool will not be satisfied with a finish outside the top four at all. He could be a part of Jurgen Klopp’s second great team here.

Gladbach open to sale

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita haven’t impressed in recent seasons and just took up space on the squad list. James Milner will also leave as a free agent this summer.

Hence, we can use a young midfielder who has enough experience at the top level and has room to get even better. Kone fits the bill.

It is good that we have started talks with the player, be it ‘preliminary contacts’. It is a good way to get ahead of the competition.

It is very important that we try and do our business early so that Jurgen Klopp has enough time with Kone to assimilate him into the system. The price tag doesn’t seem too steep either

As per Fabrizio Romano, Kone could cost Liverpool anywhere between €35-40million. Not bad for a classy Bundesliga midfielder whose prime years are ahead of him.
