Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez will enjoy an extended summer break after seeing himself excluded from Uruguay’s national squad for their upcoming internationals.
The 23-year-old striker’s absence is due to a toe injury that saw him miss Liverpool’s final three Premier League fixtures against Leicester City, Aston Villa, and Southampton. (h/t ECHO)
Nunez sustained the injury shortly after Liverpool’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brentford in early May. Although the extent of his injury was not public information, it was severe enough to keep him out of action for the remainder of the domestic season.
Uruguay’s newly appointed manager, Marcelo Bielsa, made the decision to omit Nunez from the squad for the upcoming friendlies against Nicaragua and Cuba. This move certainly allows the Liverpool forward additional time to recover and recuperate fully from his toe injury.
The extended break will undoubtedly be a welcome opportunity for Nunez to rest and regain his fitness ahead of the new season. Liverpool fans will be hoping that the young forward can return to full strength and make a significant impact in the upcoming campaign.
With Liverpool aiming to challenge for major honours, having Nunez fit and firing on all cylinders would be a significant boost to the team’s attacking options. The extended summer break should provide the forward with ample time to regain his sharpness and adapt to Klopp’s tactical demands ahead of the new season, which certainly promises a lot of new starts for the Reds.
Liverpool fans will be eagerly monitoring the 23-year-old striker’s recovery and hoping for positive updates on his return to full fitness. It is important he isn’t rushed back into any training sessions without proper recovery and rehabilitation.
As the new season approaches, the prospect of witnessing Nunez’s contribution to the team’s success will undoubtedly heighten anticipation among the Anfield faithful.
Given he blew hot and cold in his first season in England, he would hope to go all guns blazing next season and beyond and justify potentially being the Reds’ most expensive player.
