Liverpool miss out as Manchester United nears deal for Chelsea’s Mason Mount

In a pretty unsurprising turn of events, it seems that Liverpool FC’s hopes of securing Mason Mount see themselves out of the window as talks emerge of negotiations between Manchester United and Chelsea for the Cobham academy graduate.

The Guardian via Liverpool ECHO has revealed that the Red Devils have already initiated discussions regarding a potential deal for Mason Mount this summer. He finds himself with just one year left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge. Despite extensive negotiations with Chelsea, the midfielder has been unable to reach an agreement on new terms.

United have already reached personal terms with Mason Mount, a significant step towards securing the player’s services. The club is reportedly confident that he will become Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer.

However, negotiations are not expected to be smooth sailing, as Chelsea is likely to demand a substantial fee for their prized asset, at least £70m. This news will undoubtedly disappoint Liverpool fans who were eagerly anticipating the arrival of Mount at Anfield.

Mount to the Red (Devils)?

The Reds saw themselves previously extensively linked with the England international, indicating their interest in securing his services. However, with United now firmly in the picture, it appears that Liverpool’s pursuit has come to an end.

However, the Reds have stepped up in their pursuit of Alexis Mac Allister and the Argentine could come in as Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke’s first signing of the summer, and hopefully, not the last midfielder.

Speaking of Mount, this turn of events represents a setback to Liverpool FC’s quest to strengthen their midfield. Jurgen Klopp may now turn his attention to alternative targets apart from Mac Allister as he seeks to enhance his team’s chances of reclaiming their place at the pinnacle of English football.

In the ever-competitive world of football transfers, surprises are aplenty. With the 24-year-old Chelsea playmaker seemingly on the verge of joining Manchester United, the landscape of the Premier League is surely set for a seismic shift.
