Newcastle United exit race for 21-year-old Spaniard on Liverpool’s radar

Liverpool lead the race for Gabri Veiga after Newcastle discontinue pursuit

Exciting developments emerge regarding the potential transfer of Spanish midfielder Gabri Veiga, as Newcastle United has withdrawn from the race to sign the 21-year-old and this news comes as a boost for Liverpool, who are now ‘the frontrunners’ in securing Veiga’s signature.

That is as per The Telegraph via ECHO. Despite initial speculation linking Veiga with a move to both St James’ Park and Anfield, it now appears that Eddie Howe’s side no longer remain in contention for the talented midfielder.

At just 21 years old, Gabri Veiga

has already showcased immense potential and attracted the attention of several top clubs. Liverpool’s interest in the midfielder highlights their commitment to securing talented young players who can contribute to the team’s long-term success.

Despite the fact that his contract at Celta Vigo lasts until 2026 (Transfermarkt), the La Liga club’s president, Carlos Mourino, has accepted that they could stand forced to sell the young talent. (h/t ECHO)

Veiga to the Reds?

Liverpool’s midfield has been lacking depth and it is crucial for the club to strengthen this area. Several players, notably James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to depart after the expiration of their contracts this summer.

Therefore, it becomes imperative for Liverpool to reinvest in their squad and secure suitable replacements. Veiga’s stats are great, as he has 11 goals and four assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. Most of those, from central midfield, for a mid-table team like Celta Vigo. Commendable, to say the least.

The fact that Newcastle United is no longer in the running for Veiga’s signature surely places Liverpool in a favourable position to secure the talented midfielder. The club’s continued pursuit of promising young talents and building a squad for the future is certainly promising.

Moreover, a file report from ECHO suggests that the 21-year-old has a release clause of £35m, which has piqued the interest of the Reds. Big money for a player who doesn’t have any European appearances, but keeping in mind his potential, the deal could certainly be great.

Fans would hope for Veiga to sign for Liverpool and grow both, as an individual and as a player in the famous Red jersey of the Merseysiders.
