Liverpool FC’s midfield rebuild continues this summer as the club makes decisions regarding the futures of Leighton Clarkson and Fabio Carvalho. While Clarkson remains expected to secure a permanent move after a successful loan spell at Aberdeen, Carvalho’s availability would only remain for a loan move.
That is as per The Athletic (Subscription Required). 21-year-old Academy graduate Leighton Clarkson impressed during his loan spell at Aberdeen, contributing six goals and nine assists in 38 appearances. His performances helped the Scottish Premiership club secure European qualification and Aberdeen stay curious about a permanent move.
Aberdeen are keen to retain the Englishman’s services, and he has also attracted interest from other Scottish top-flight clubs and several Championship teams. Liverpool is open to selling him as they look to shape their squad for the upcoming season, especially with the arrival of Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.
On the other hand, Fabio Carvalho, the former Fulham youngster, is not available for a permanent transfer. Liverpool recently rejected a bid from RB Leipzig for around £10m
for the talented midfielder. Carvalho’s game time decreased during the latter part of the season, leading to interest from various Premier League clubs for a potential loan move. While Liverpool considers loan offers, a temporary switch remains the most probable outcome for Carvalho this summer. One possible destination for the 19-year-old could be a return to Fulham, the club that sold him to Liverpool last year.
Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy believe that a loan move would provide Carvalho with valuable playing time and experience, contributing to his development. The player is too talented to let go of permanently, and hence the Reds should somehow plan to include the player in their long-term plans.
As Liverpool continues to shape their midfield options, the departures of Clarkson and the loan move for Carvalho will provide opportunities for both players to further their careers.
The club remains committed to nurturing young talents and finding the best possible pathways for their development.
Liverpool fans will be eager to see how the midfield rebuild unfolds and will trust in the club’s decision-making process as they look to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season and beyond.
