Liverpool could battle with Manchester United for the signature of Federico Valverde
As per South American outlet El Nacional (h/t Evening Standard), Liverpool and Manchester United could battle to acquire the services of Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.
The report states that the Spanish giants are keen on letting go of the Uruguayan international after agreeing on a deal to sign England midfielder and former Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.
It is also revealed that the 14-time European champions will demand as much as £85m if they are to sell Valverde this summer. Liverpool, apparently, have made a £51m bid as Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the player. That offer was rejected as per expectations.
Valverde is an elite midfielder who can operate as a number eight and a winger if required. He can run all day for the team, is tactically very good, can score goals from midfield, and is a very good passer of the ball.
While all that is good, does the price tag imposed by Madrid on the 24-year-old rules Liverpool out of the transfer race? Most probably so.
There is a reason why the Reds pulled out of a deal to sign Bellingham – the steep asking price of Borussia Dortmund. When they can pull out of their long-term target, it makes no sense to think that they will all of a sudden create funds to spend the big money on Valverde.
Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister, while the links with Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone are ongoing. Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga is among the names touted as well.

We know the club will look to sign players whose asking prices are not astronomically high. It is what it is, like it or not as a Liverpool fan. We can only hope that good business deals are about to happen in terms of player signing in the coming weeks.
