Calvin Ramsay is moving from Liverpool to Preston North End on a season-long loan deal
As per Times correspondent Paul Joyce, Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay is joining Championship side Preston North End on a season-long loan deal.
The club feels that after a season of injuries and bad luck since arriving from Aberdeen last summer, Ramsay needs regular game time to get up to speed with the intensity of the game.
After struggling in the first half of the 2022/23 campaign, it was revealed in February of the current calendar year that the Scotsman will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery. The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp felt a break until the start of the 2023/24 will prove vital for the player.
What this early announcement does is that it shows Ramsay wasn’t in Klopp’s plans for the next season.
So, after the departure of James Milner, it would be interesting to see who backs Trent Alexander-Arnold up at right-back, or who plays there full-time if Trent is moved into midfield.
Conor Bradley had an excellent loan spell at League One side Bolton Wanderers last time out. But, will his performances in a division two steps below the Premier League count for something? It might do if he has a good pre-season.
Joe Gomez can play there but he was even struggling to hold it up while playing his favoured centre-back position.
Keeping all these things in mind, does it mean that Liverpool will go after a right-sided defender or an out-and-out right-back during the summer transfer window? Perhaps.
