Two Premier League clubs enter race for Liverpool transfer target Manu Kone

Liverpool target Manu Kone is a subject of interest from Aston Villa and Wolves

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) have joined the race to sign Liverpool target Manu Kone.

After completing the deal to sign Alexis Mac Allister, the Reds have registered genuine interest in the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.

With Villa and Wolves also in the race, Liverpool must make sure they sign the Frenchman before it becomes a proper transfer race where the club with the most money wins it.

The 22-year-old will be featuring for France in the U21 Euros later this month. He will play with another Liverpool midfield target – Khephren Thuram.

Kone is a versatile midfield player who can play as a defensive midfielder or as a number eight in a three-man setup.

He makes excellent use of the ball, be it via progressive runs and passes, accurate passing, dribbling past people or playing neat one-twos with another teammate to open up the space in midfield.

His elegance on the ball, combined with a high work rate makes up for a dish that would be liked by Jurgen Klopp

. The German prefers midfielders who can do well both on and off the ball.

It would be ideal if Liverpool begin the negotiations to sign Kone soon. Leaving it till the time the U21 Euros starts will make things complicated.

If that was not enough of a motivation, the reported interest from Wolves and Villa should spur them on to complete this move in the coming days. Let’s hope that is the case as Jorg Schmadtke begins his work as a director of the club.

Getting Kone would mean Liverpool having a player of the ilk and the quality of Thiago Alcantara

. The latter is far more experienced, but the former is showing signs of matching the Spaniard’s level.
