Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate keen to see Khephren Thuram join the Reds
Describing Khephren Thuram as a ‘little brother’, Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate spoke about how happy he would be to take the Nice star under his wing and help the midfielder explore his potential at Merseyside.
Speaking to RMC Sport via ECHO, here is what Ibou had to say on Thuram potentially joining the Reds over the summer transfer window amid plenty of transfer speculation:
“I would be very happy for him [Thuram] to come to Liverpool and I would take him under my wing and I would do everything for him to progress and become the player he wants to become.”
“Khephren is like my little brother, he’s someone I saw growing up. I was with his big brother in the training centre, but I saw him grow. I saw him perform and progress at a level… It was incredible. Even when he came to the France team for his first selection. I saw him at the training and I was really surprised by his size and his technical ease.”
The French duo would naturally know a lot about each other from their national team camps and obviously, Konate could surely do his best and sell Thuram the idea of joining Liverpool. After all, Ibou has had tremendous success during his stay at the Reds so far, and the player remains destined for greatness if he continues to showcase the same level of performance in the future as well.
At only 22, Thuram has tremendous amounts of potential in him, and manager Jurgen Klopp would love for the OGC Nice man to spread his wings at Liverpool. The Reds, of course, are in dire need of midfield reinforcements, and having on board a youngster like Thuram will surely help the Reds’ cause.
Thuram to the Reds?
The Monaco academy graduate has shown a lot of versatility at Nice and can play both, defensive and central midfield. Moreover, he also has an appearance starting on the left flank which surely means that he has the legs for it.
But being a primarily defensive midfielder, his goal contributions aren’t as attractive as they would be for players in other positions. In 138 appearances across all competitions, he has eight goals and 11 assists for Nice.
Aside from the goal contributions, Thuram offers a strong presence in the midfield, and standing at 1.92m, he offers elite levels of physicality and a sense of strength in the middle of the park.
However, his elite ball-carrying abilities and range of passing make him an ideal candidate to field him as a box-to-box player which the Reds have surely lacked ever since the departure of Gini Wijnaldum. We had Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who could have made that role his own, but injury issues hampered his development at the Reds.

If Liverpool somehow find a way to play Fabinho in that DM role, with Alexis Mac Allister on one side regularly making the runs and Thuram playing a box-to-box, his clean striking ability could also mean we have a goal scoring threat from the midfield. Do your magic, Agent Konate.
