Former Liverpool star John Barnes feels Khephren Thuram will be a welcome addition to the team
Liverpool legend John Barnes feels Khephren Thuram would be a welcome addition to the team if the club signs him this summer.
Liverpool are in the race to sign Nice star during the summer transfer window. Reds defender Ibrahima Konate welcomed the possibility of him joining us at Anfield.
The club made an early move in the window with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton. But, more additions are required in the midfield department to have a squad able enough to challenge for trophies next season.
Here’s what Barnes said when asked about Thuram joining Liverpool (h/t Bonus Code Bets, via Liverpool Echo):
“What Liverpool are trying to do here reminds me of Real Madrid where they have Toni Kroos, Luka Modric but have now supplemented them with Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Bellingham and Valverde.
“People spoke about the Real Madrid team getting old and now they’ve become younger and more dynamic. That’s the right way to go about things and Thuram would be another welcome addition alongside Kone.”
Thuram, French great Lillian’s son, is a versatile box-to-box midfield player who can dominate games through ball progression, excellent passing and chance-creation, the ability to win duels on the ground and aerially and high work rate.
At 22, he is one of the best young central midfielders in Europe. The good thing is that he is at an age where there is scope for improvement to get better than what he already is.
Jurgen Klopp generally likes a player of this profile and age. The German wants a hard-working midfielder who can run for the team all game long and provide that quality in passing when required.
If ever a player was suited to how Klopp likes to play, Thuram is that player. The Frenchman will be part of the U21 Euros starting next week.

So, the Reds should look to complete a deal before that because it might not be feasible to do it in between a massive tournament. Let’s hope the player is eager to join us at Anfield and showcase his talents on the biggest possible stage on a weekly basis.
