Liverpool retained list confirms club’s stance on Adrian; Romano drops update

Liverpool retained list confirms club’s stance on Adrian San Miguel contract talks

It seems like one more year of Adrian San Miguel at Liverpool. According to Liverpool Echo, the club have released their retained list of players.

The Spaniard’s name is not on the list despite his contract expiring this month. The Reds have confirmed exits of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as free agents.

Academy players Iwan Roberts, Oludare Olufunwa, Charlie Hayes-Green, Fidel O’Rourke and goalie Liam Hughes are also among those who will leave. But Adrian will stay.

Fabrizio Romano’s recent tweet further confirms the Reds’ stance to offer him a new deal beyond this season. The transfer expert tweeted:

“Liverpool statement confirms Adrian has been offered new deal — the agreement is already done and sealed. 🚨🔴 #LFC Official statement will follow, Adrian will be part of Liverpool team next season.”

No complaints as long as he is strictly our third-choice goalkeeper. Only when Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher are completely unavailable to play should Adrian get a chance.

During his entire stay here, he has not impressed and has shown why he left West Ham United as a free agent. We can’t blame him for his poor performances entirely because he was only signed to be a backup to Alisson – who is ever-present.

But in the UEFA Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid in the 2019-20 season, his frailty in goal was exposed in front of the global football world. Klopp was brave in the aftermath.

Just as he binned Loris Karius after the 2019 UEFA Champions League final, Adrian was very quickly banished from being our No. 2, and Kelleher’s rise began.

If the situation continues like it is right now, keeping Adrian is fine. But if Kelleher leaves amidst interest from clubs including Tottenham Hotspur

, then we must get a proper No. 2 in instead of the 36-year-old Spaniard.
