Liverpool made a recent attempt to sign Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde

As per Teamtalk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool recently made an attempt to sign Real Madrid and Uruguay midfielder Federico Valverde.

The report also reveals that both Valverde and Madrid are not willing to part ways this summer. Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in him.

Let’s be honest here, this sounds like an unrealistic move all day long. The possibility of Valverde costing a lot for Liverpool to back off is as high as anything. Moreover, it wouldn’t make sense for Los Blancos to sell one of their finest young players.

There is no doubting how good a player the Uruguayan is, to be honest. He is a versatile midfielder who can also play on the wing, just like what Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain used to do for the Reds when he was fit and playing well.

Attributes-wise, Valverde is exactly the sort of player who would be a great addition to the Liverpool squad. But, it is hardly a surprise to know that the 24-year-old isn’t interested in moving away from Madrid. Why would you as well, unless there is something wrong between him and the manager?

As a Liverpool fan though, let’s not dwell on this too much and focus on what is possible in this summer window. For a club our stature, it shouldn’t be a bad idea to target players for a club like Real Madrid – but Valverde just doesn’t seem impossible.

After getting Alexis Mac Allister a few days ago, things have gone quiet for the Reds. Is it the calm before the storm or is the club struggling to make moves with a possibility of a limited budget on the cards?

If we look at it objectively, Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp could do with two more midfield additions and get a defender or two as well. The right players must be bought so that the manager is on board with what is happening when the new additions join the squad.
