Liverpool’s young sensations Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott are nominated for the Golden Boy Award
Young Liverpool stars Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott are nominated for the Golden Boy award for 2023.
It is a 100-player shortlist, consisting of some of the best young players in the European game. Players under the age of 21 are eligible for this award.
The winner will be decided later this calendar year by a panel of 50 international journalists. Elliott and Bajcetic will be in the reckoning considering how well they did for Liverpool in such a difficult season.
If we look at the numbers, the former played 46 games and scored five goals and assisted two. He played most of his games as a right-sided central midfielder. Jurgen Klopp used him as a winger when Mohamed Salah needed a rest.
Bajcetic, on the other hand, came into the picture later in the season but had a strong second half of it before getting a bad injury in March. Even in that handful of appearances, the young Spaniard showed his class in midfield and was slowly becoming the go-to man for Klopp.
These two young players are expected to have a bright future, regardless of whether it is at Liverpool or somewhere else.
Elliott is a versatile player who can play in central midfield (although still learning that position) and is comfortable operating as a playmaker or on the right wing.
Bajcetic can play as a lone defensive midfielder and is technically adept at operating as one of the number eights as well. His passing and reading of the game are at par with some of the better midfielders in the division.

We congratulate the duo for getting nominated for the Golden Boy Award. The hope is that one of them lifts that award later this year, even though that seems a little unrealistic given the competition they are up against – including the likes of Jamal Musiala, Jude Bellingham and Gavi.
