The hopes of Liverpool to secure the services of Adrien Rabiot goes down a spiral as his current employers at Juventus hope to secure his signature for a contract extension.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter. The transfer guru spoke of Juventus’ optimism to get Rabiot to extend his stay at Turin. The Italian giants surely recognise the immense potential and versatility that Rabiot brings to the midfield.
“Juventus hope to get the green light from Adrien Rabiot in the next days to extend the contract and get new deal signed. There’s optimism to get the agreement done as Rabiot could be free agent next week but Juve proposal is now the best one on the table.”
Earlier this month, Liverpool were ‘mooted’ as a destination for Rabiot, as per Gazzetta dello Sport via ECHO.
The 28-year-old Frenchman remains contracted to Juve until the end of this month (Transfermarkt) and does not seem to be in contact with any other club as well. Liverpool’s transfer interest in Rabiot takes the backseat for the time being as Juve’s offer is the best on the table.
Rabiot’s skill set perfectly aligns with Liverpool’s high-intensity style of play under Jurgen Klopp. His technical ability alongside his defensive quality makes him a transfer target for the Reds. Rabiot’s versatility to play in multiple midfield roles, including a box-to-box role or as a defensive midfielder, would add valuable depth to Liverpool’s squad.
However, the downsides of getting him on board outweigh the pros. He tends to attract a sense of controversy wherever he goes. That is against the ethos at Liverpool, where the team is one big family. The individual might be a great player, but if the attitude isn’t right for a club like Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp knows the club remains better off without such individuals.
However, the club might have a different perspective from what we have from the outside. Hence, the transfer saga is surely one to keep an eye out for. While Juventus is hopeful of extending Rabiot’s contract, Liverpool’s interest in the Frenchman should not be underestimated.
Liverpool will undoubtedly continue their pursuit of strengthening their squad, keeping an eye on other players too.
Only time will tell if Rabiot will don the famous red jersey and add a new dimension to Liverpool’s midfield in the upcoming season.
