The pre-season for Liverpool ahead of the 2023/24 campaign will surely be a tough one. Missing out on Champions League football for the first time under a full season of Jurgen Klopp is surely something that would have its effects.
However, Andy Robertson seems a determined man, as he always is. The Scotland captain spoke about the Reds’ pre-season aims in an exclusive with talkSPORT and here is what he said:
“But the pre-season will be a big one. We have to get it right in terms of fitness and everything like that and get ourselves as ready as we can and tactically I’m sure we will be doing a lot of work as well to try and make us a better team and a team than can compete for the trophies we want to compete for.”
Liverpool’s pre-season games begin on 19th July in Germany and after two games in Jurgen Klopp’s home country, will fly to Singapore to continue their camp in Asia as well. Hopefully, the major chunk of Liverpool’s transfer business sorts itself out by then so that we can begin our competitive fixtures with maximum intent.
Players like Robbo himself, who are a part of the Reds’ leadership group would have a huge role to play in helping new signings integrate into the squad. (if we make any more).
The departure of the likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Fabio Carvalho (loan) surely needs to be addressed and hopefully, we get on board some players who could help keep water above the heads.
Especially in pre-season as that is when the tactics and all plans come into practicality for the first time ahead of a new season. If we can get things right ahead of the season, we surely can get them right when the competitive fixtures come our way.
As one of the most experienced members of the squad, Robertson also brings leadership qualities to the table. With his never-say-die attitude and exceptional work ethic, he sets a high standard for his teammates to follow.
During pre-season, where new signings and young prospects are integrated into the team, Robertson’s guidance and mentorship can prove invaluable in helping them adapt to Liverpool’s demanding style of play.
With Robbo in the squad, Liverpool’s pre-season promises to be an exciting and fruitful period, laying the foundations for yet another (hopefully) successful campaign for the Reds.
