Liverpool target Patrick Dorgu’s agent advises against joining the Reds

Lecce’s 18-year-old left-back Patrick Dorgu is among the many players who see themselves linked with a move to Liverpool.

The Dane’s agent, however, suggests the player not move to the Reds because Dorgu will not get a chance with the first team straightaway but will start his spell at the club with the U23 side if he decides to move to Liverpool. Here is what agent Kingsley Ogbodo, speaking to Danish outlet Bold via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool ECHO) had to say:

“Liverpool want him. Liverpool have been watching him and interested in him for some time, but if he goes there, he’ll have to play in the U23 team.”

“It’s not the best for him, so I advise him not to do it. They can offer him a lot of money, but that’s not what we’re looking for right now. We focus on his career, development and playing time.”

There seemed to be a bit of contradiction in the agent’s statement as development is, obviously a gradual and continuous process, and adjusting himself to the environment at the club with the age group squads first before making the big move to the first team is not harmful for the player’s career by any means.

While the player obviously has a lot of talent, and that spark in him because of which the Reds have him on their radar, a move for a left-back at the moment seems rather unwanted, at least at the moment.

Dorgu disappointment for the Reds?

Speaking of our academy, we have the likes of James Norris, Owen Beck and Adam Lewis among others who have the potential in them to start and dictate games for Liverpool in the future.

The first team has two extremely formidable options in that position. Andrew Robertson is practically ‘un-benchable’ while Kostas Tsimikas has been more handy whenever opportunities have come his way.

While it may come across as a disappointment to miss out on securing the services of a young talent like Dorgu, we must show confidence in our club’s staff to address any gaps in the team and leave it to them.

However, we have a lot of reliable options, in both, the first-team setup and the academy as well. So there’s not a lot of pressure on Liverpool to act on the potential missing out of the chance to sign Dorgu.

An urgent requirement for the first team, on the other hand, is the services of a left-sided centre-back along with two or three midfielders. Hopefully, the rest sort their business out as soon as possible.
