Liverpool to meet with the reps of Napoli star Victor Osimhen
Liverpool FC’s transfer plans have taken an intriguing turn as reports emerge of the club booking a meeting with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian international enjoyed a stellar season, finishing as the top scorer in Serie A with 26 goals, helping Napoli secure their first top-flight title since 1990.
With interest from top clubs such as Bayern Munich and PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United have now scheduled meetings with Osimhen‘s entourage as per Sacha Tavolieri via Twitter (h/t ECHO).
If there’s enough thought put into it, Liverpool may not necessarily require his services, given the surplus of attacking options at their disposal, coupled with the potentially hefty price tag associated with the striker.
On the surface, Osimhen’s goal-scoring exploits and his desire for a Premier League move make him an attractive prospect. However, when we delve deeper into Liverpool’s squad composition, it becomes evident that the Reds already possess an abundance of attacking talent.
Is Osimhen surplus to requirements?
With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota forming a formidable front three, Liverpool’s attacking department has been one of the most potent in Europe. In addition, Darwin Nunez has made a significant impact since his arrival too. Therefore, the need for another high-profile striker like Osimhen may be deemed surplus to requirements.
We also have Cody Gakpo, who is among the most versatile players at the club, can play anywhere along the front line and has the potential to be an all-timer at the club. Furthermore, Osimhen’s price tag, likely inflated due to his impressive season in Serie A, could present a significant stumbling block.
Investing a substantial sum in a player who may not be an essential addition to the squad could hinder the club’s ability to address other areas that require attention.
When considering the current squad dynamics and the potential financial implications, it appears that the Nigerian striker may not be the most necessary addition for the Reds at this point.

As the transfer window unfolds and the intentions of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United become clearer, it remains to be seen if any of these clubs will proceed with a move for Victor Osimhen. Liverpool, in particular, may need to carefully evaluate whether acquiring the Nigerian striker is a necessary step forward or if their existing attacking options are more than capable of leading them to success in the upcoming season.
