Steven Gerrard eyes Saudi move for former Liverpool striker Divock Origi
In an interesting turn of events, Liverpool icon and Al Ettifaq manager Steven Gerrard eyes a move for former Red Divock Origi as the Belgian international’s time at AC Milan has been far from successful from a personal point of view.
That is as per Italian Journalist Sacha Tavolieri via Twitter [h/t ECHO]. Origi is a cult hero at Anfield, who literally scored goals at will. His goal catalogue for the Reds is as brilliant as it could get. The sheer timing of his goals meant that Liverpool snatched victory, at times drawn games, from the jaws of defeat. While as fans, we would’ve expected him to shine at Milan, that has been far from reality and even AC Milan look to offload the player.
“I understand Divock #Origi’s one of the names targeted by #AlEttifaq FC to sign under the request of Steven #Gerrard. Saudi club’s took contact and it’s trying to convince the Belgian striker… But that is not done yet. #SPL”
Origi’s stint at AC Milan following his departure from Liverpool has been far from ideal, and a move to Saudi Arabia could offer him the opportunity for regular playing time.
Understandably, Origi may be considering his options and seeking a fresh start to revive his career. Gerrard, who knows Origi’s abilities better than most, seems keen on offering him a lifeline in the form of a move to Al Ettifaq.
Origi to Saudi?
The allure of playing under Gerrard’s guidance in a new environment could be enticing for Origi. Al Ettifaq could offer him the platform to rediscover his form and confidence. The Saudi Arabian league has seen an influx of talent in recent years, and Origi could thrive in the Middle East.
Moreover, the prospect of regular game time is crucial for Origi’s development. The lack of opportunities at AC Milan has hindered his progress, and a move to Al Ettifaq would provide him with the chance to showcase his skills and regain his rhythm on the pitch. It would surely be a great sight for Liverpool fans to see them both link up as well.
A switch to Saudi Arabia could prove to be a turning point for Origi. The change of scenery and playing in a less competitive league might provide him with the platform to regain his confidence and rediscover his scoring touch.
Additionally, under the guidance of his former Liverpool captain Gerrard, Origi could receive the necessary guidance and support to resurrect his career. Even though they have not played any competitive games together, they would know each other well from Stevie’s later association with the Reds post his retirement.
