Chelsea defender Levi Colwill ‘not for sale’ amidst Liverpool interest

Premier league rivals Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with Levi Colwill in the ongoing transfer window amidst interest from Liverpool, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs on Twitter (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The Reds have their eyes on the England U21 Euro champion. However, the Blues are adamant that the centre-back is ‘not for sale’ this summer. As a result, the Merseyside outfit are expected to keep a low profile in the pursuit for now.

For now, Mauricio Pochettino is expected to hold discussions with the 20-year-old. The West London club will look to tie the youngster down to a new contract. If they are unable to do so, they will not sell him.

The England U21 international was on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion in the previous campaign. The Seagulls have also been eyeing a permanent move for the 20-year-old after his impressive displays in the 2022/23 season.

Recently, Colwill was also pivotal to the England U21 team’s triumph in the European Championship. The team coached by Lee Carsley beat Spain as Liverpool’s Curtis Jones scored the only goal of the game.

At the Reds, Jurgen Klopp was unable to rely on a set pair in the backline due to multiple injury issues. Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate have been injury-prone during their time at the Anfield side.

Unfortunately, Virgil van Dijk was also not at the top of his game. The Holland international looked a shadow of his former self in the previous campaign. Joe Gomez was also underwhelming wherever he was called upon.

Colwill is a promising defender with immense potential. We could evidently do with some fresh blood in our backline. The English national has the qualities to push for a starting berth at Liverpool. However, whether Chelsea will let go of their prized asset remains to be seen.
