Liverpool will look to acquire the services of Juventus star Federico Chiesa only if they part ways with Mohamed Salah, according to Gazzetta dello Sport
(h/t Liverpool Echo). If the Egyptian were to leave for Saudi Arabia, only then would the Italy international’s signing be considered. However, until then, it remains to be seen what happens with the forward’s future.
Apart from the Reds, Newcastle United also have the 25-year-old on their radar. But even they would need to sell someone from their front line before going after the former Fiorentina star’s signature.
Premier League rivals Aston Villa were also interested in Chiesa. The Villans approached his agent Fali Ramadani, but a move to the Birmingham-based club did not appeal to the Italian.
Even if Liverpool did decide to pursue the forward, they would need to pay a considerable sum to get him. Juventus do not want to sell the 25-year-old for less than £42 million.
Considering Chiesa’s form over the last few months, the price tag seems a bit much. The Italian was on the sidelines for a long time before returning to action midway through last season. However, the 25-year-old did not look like his former self.
At the moment, despite the exit of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the last two years, Jurgen Klopp still has Salah from the iconic forward trio. The Egyptian continued to be our talisman in the previous campaign.
While the 31-year-old was nowhere near his best, the forward’s numbers were still impressive in the 2022/23 term. Klopp can also call upon the likes of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo up front.
Thus, Liverpool are wise not to make any concrete move for Chiesa for now. However, whether the Anfield side will opt to get a hold of the Italian further down the line remains to be seen.
