Zenit and former Barcelona forward Malcolm attracting interest from Liverpool and PSG
Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are interested in Zenit and former Barcelona star Malcolm in the ongoing transfer window, according to Foot Mercato (h/t Liverpool Echo).
The Brazil international has caught the eye of the Reds after an impressive 2022/23 campaign. To that end, the Merseyside outfit ‘appreciate his profile’.
However, the Anfield side are yet to make an official move to get a hold of the forward’s signature. Apart from us and the Parisians, teams in Saudi Arabia also have the 26-year-old on their radar this summer.
Zenit signed Malcolm in the summer of 2019 from Barcelona. The Brazilian only spent a season at the Catalan outfit before being shipped to Russia. The forward has developed at the Gazprom Arena side over the years and came into his own in the previous campaign.
In the 2022/23 term, the 26-year-old made 33 appearances in all competitions for Zenit. He found the back of the net 23 times and provided nine assists.
PSG have recently appointed Luis Enrique as their new head coach. However, Lionel Messi’s departure has left a gaping hole in the Parc des Princes side’s attack. The World Cup-winning Argentine left the Ligue 1 outfit after the end of his contract.
At Liverpool, the forward line is stacked with an abundance of talent. The Merseysiders have the likes of Mohammed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo in their ranks.
Therefore, it does not seem like we need to add more depth up front. Malcolm has developed into a decent player. However, the Brazilian is arguably not an upgrade on any of our current attackers.

As things stand, it would be wise of the Reds to bolster other positions on the pitch before focusing up front. Thus, whether the Anfield side will make a concrete move for the 26-year-old in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
