Levi Colwill did not play down his links to Liverpool during an Instagram live

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill did not play down the rumours linking him to Liverpool during an Instagram live after he won the U21 Euros with England.

Colwill has been vehemently linked with a move to the Reds but Chelsea are adamant that the young defender is not for sale this summer.

A few days ago, it was revealed that the Blues offered a new contract to the 20-year-old. The player won’t sign it until he has a conversation with Mauricio Pochettino.

Here’s what he said when the Liverpool talk came up on Instagram live (h/t Liverpool Echo):

“Said no football talk man”

Daily Mail has reported that Pochettino and Colwill will have a face-to-face talk later this week regarding the latter’s future. We might get to know more about this situation by the end of this week or early next week.

The 20-year-old was a part of the English defence that did not concede a single goal on their way to lifting the U21 Euros last weekend.

He is an excellent left-footed defender who has everything in his game that will make him one of the centre-backs in the world for the coming decade.

If Jurgen Klopp persists with the system he ended last season in, there is room for a left-sided defender to slot beside Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. Trent Alexander-Arnold can then have the freedom to wander into midfield when the team is in possession.

Colwill would fit in well in that system. Even if the German goes back to the standard 4-3-3, the Englishman would do well, as we saw him do on loan at Brighton last season.

Even if the player states his desire to leave Chelsea, it won’t be an easy deal for Liverpool to get over the line. But, it would be an important one.
