Torino star Perr Schuurs favours Liverpool move over London club

Torino defender Perr Schuurs wants to move to Liverpool, Crystal Palace are in the race

As per Mirror, Torino defender Perr Schuurs is favouring a move to Liverpool this summer. Fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace are interested in him too.

The Reds wanted to sign the young Dutch defender six years ago when he was a Fortuna Sittard player. He came to train with the club’s U18s when Steven Gerrard was the manager. He eventually joined Ajax.

Schuurs’ current contract with Torino lasts until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt

). Liverpool will have to fork out something in the region of £35m to sign the 23-year-old.

It is revealed that Jurgen Klopp has gone one step further to complete this deal. He has spoken with the boss above to make this move happen.

We have seen Schuurs play when he was at Ajax during the home and away games in the group stage of the Champions League back in 2020/21. He was impressive back then and had a good season at Torino after joining them from Dutch giants last summer.

The 23-year-old is an excellent right-footed centre-back who was predominantly used as a right-sided centre-back in a three-man defence last season.

If Klopp wants to continue with the hybrid system next season, Schuurs could fit in well as a right centre-back to cover for the space left by Trent Alexander-Arnold

when goes into midfield in possession.

We have Ibrahima Konate there but the Frenchman cannot play every game. Moreover, he has shown signs of breaking down when asked to play a lot of back-to-back games. Other options Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are unfortunately not reliable anymore.

So, for the price quoted and the age he is in, it would make a lot of sense for Liverpool to push the button and sign Schuurs this summer. The player also seems on board with the project and he can hope to play alongside his compatriot, Virgil van Dijk, who can teach him a thing or two here.
