Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has set his sights on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone.
That is according to German journalist Christian Falk. Falk revealed that Schmadtke is actively making plans based on Jurgen Klopp’s market preferences at Liverpool. Here is what he told Caught Offside (h/t ECHO) about Liverpool’s transfer plans as the Reds spearheaded by Schmadtke eye a move for Manu Kone:
“We’ve been previously talking about Manu Kone, for example. He had a knee injury at the European U21 Championship, so it will take time, as he can’t pass any medical tests at the moment. So this could be a topic that will be interesting for English clubs like Liverpool.”
“Schmadtke has an eye on him. So these are things in the background that Schmadtke is doing at the moment.”
However, Kone’s recent knee injury during the European U21 Championship may slow down any potential transfer, as he is currently unable to undergo medical tests.
Falk suggests that this situation could pique the interest of English clubs, including Liverpool, once Kone recovers from his injury. Schmadtke has shown a keen eye for talent and is closely monitoring the midfielder’s progress.
While he may not be a widely recognized name, the club’s track record of developing young talents suggests that Kone’s acquisition could be part of a long-term plan. Liverpool’s emphasis on nurturing and maximizing the potential of their signings may indicate that they see Kone as a player with significant upside.
As negotiations and evaluations progress, Liverpool supporters will be eager to learn more about the club’s interest in Kone. In 60
appearances across all competitions for Monchengladbach, Kone has four goals and two assists to his name.Although Kone’s acquisition may be on hold due to his injury, it signals Liverpool’s intentions to explore opportunities to strengthen their squad. The strategic approach taken by Jorg Schmadtke highlights the importance of comprehensive player analysis and alignment with Jurgen Klopp’s vision.
While previously, under our previous Sporting Directors Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, the Reds let out the major chunk of the decision-making process to them, it seems that now, the Sporting Director just aids Klopp in the German’s requirements towards building a strong team.
In conclusion, the news of Liverpool’s pursuit of Kone, despite his setback, underscores the club’s commitment to adding depth and quality to their midfield options. As the transfer window progresses, supporters will eagerly await further updates on potential midfield signings that can further strengthen Liverpool’s squad.
